Teletherapy as a new form of Physical Therapy:

Physical Therapy provided through an online platform is becoming increasingly popular & can be a highly effective rehabilitation option.

Evaluating a condition, prescribing effective management, educating and explaining about the condition are effective tools that facilitate healing and can be delivered in an online PT session.

How Do I Have a PT Session Online?

NEED TECH HELP?

—Ask family members in your household to help you connect & use technology for your healthcare needs. The health benefits are huge, safe, convenient and time saving.

INSURANCE & Telehealth PT

—Prior to making an appointment, contact your insurance company to find out if PT Telehealth is covered on your plan, how many sessions & any plan deductibles for this service.

How to Prepare for an Online PT Session:

  • Contact your PT provider to request (& schedule) an online PT appointment. Ask what forms they need you to complete & submit. Usually you can do this by email.
  • Ask your PT provider what space and props they might need for your session (Often simply floor space, yoga mat/bed, a couple of pillows and a chair is all that is needed.)
  • Wear shorts, a sleeveless shirt or comfortable clothes that are easy to move in.
  • A laptop computer on a low table usually works best. Your PT provider will send you an email link to click on to enter the session at the appointed time.
  • If you have balance challenges ask your PT if the session can be conducted with you sitting in a chair at your desk computer.

To Start Your Online PT Appointment

  1. Click on the email link your PT provider sent you 15 minutes prior to your appointment time.
  2. ACCEPT the incoming VIDEO CALL, and allow access to the camera and microphone
  3. Make sure your computer camera lens is uncovered. (If you have a camera lens cover on your camera slide it open.)
  4. UNMUTE your microphone at the appointment time. If the microphone image has a red line through it, click on this to unmute (and the red line will disappear).
  5. If you are unclear with any instructions ask your PT provider to clarify.

After the PT session is completed your PT provider may email you relevant notes from the session, your home exercise program with clarifying cues or advice.
