Physical Therapy Protocol During Covid19:
As California reopens, I want to outline my current treatment protocol using the best possible safety practices in order to ensure the safety of my patients.
Evaluating a condition, prescribing effective management, educating and explaining about the condition are effective tools that facilitate healing and can be delivered in an online PT session.
I am now implementing the following new Protocols for Home Visit and Outdoor PT sessions:
Home visit protocol for infection prevention
Prior to every session I will perform a health self-assessment:
—If I am unwell or have even a slight rise in temperature, I will cancel the session.
—If the Patient is unwell or has a fever, they can call me right away and cancel the session.
For Patients with no illness or fever who not been tested or have recently tested negative for Covid19:
- I will call from my car to alert patient of my arrival so they can open their front door.
- Patients are responsible for the safety of all animals prior to door opening, this may include leashing pet(s) or placing them in a closed room before my arrival.
- I will not touch handrails, doorbells or knobs upon entry, patient closes the door after my entry.
- I will wear new gloves and mask for each patient, and put these on prior to entering the house.
- Patients are required to provide & wear their own masks, (CA State law June 18 2020) & have the option to wear their own face shields, gloves, eye protection and clothing protection for added safety if they wish.
- I will request each patient to wear a mask and possibly gloves.
- I will carry disinfectant wipes and wipe any surfaces used by either the patient or myself during the session.
- I will hand wash prior to leaving and request that the patient opens their own front door (where possible) and closes it behind me upon my exit.
PT Out Door session Protocol for infection prevention:
- The PT will alert the patient by phone call upon arrival.
- The patient will meet the PT outdoors at the appointed place.
- PT will wear a mask for all sessions. Gloves will be worn by the PT for any necessary patient contact.
- Patients are required to provide & wear their own masks, (CA State law June 18 2020) & have the option to wear their own face shields, gloves, eye protection and clothing protection for added safety if they wish.
- The PT may request the Patient to wear gloves depending on the treatment provided.
I am implementing these precautions that are above and beyond the state-mandated measures in order to ensure the safety of my patients during our sessions. Feel free to reach out to me at bridgetgreypt@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns.
